When I read about the injustice system in UAE, I definitely agree,
because I experience it myself being jailed in Al Wathba.
I am a Filipina working as a secretary in Abu Dhabi. My boss was beating
me, not giving my salary and harassing me, and this experience start to
affect my emotional stability.
So I decided to go the Ministry of Labor to seek help, I filed for a
case against my boss asking them to cancel my working visa, then they
told me that they will call me back, the time they call me back I met my
boss and they are holding papers in their hand. Being not able to speak
Arabic, I was not aware about what's happening, I just found myself
being brought to Al Wathba prison not knowing what happen and what will
happen next.
I just found out later on that my boss agree to cancel my visa, but I am
confused why am I inside the jail? I am the one who made the complain?
And why do I need to stay in the jail for a week if I did not do
anything wrong.
I can never forget the day that they allow me to go back to my country
they bring me to the airport with cuffs on my feet, treated like a real
criminal that's been going to be deported. And you see how the people in
the airport look at you like you did something wrong.
I can not explain to them that I did not do anything wrong and now I am
going home because I ask for my cancellation. I thought that if your
saying the truth the justice will be prevail. but in my case I guess
because I am not an Arab and I cannot speak Arabic, I am just a small
fish on this big sea and only the big people are being heard.
I went to uae to have a job that will help me support my family but all
I got is bad experience that hurt me and my family. I hope that the
justice system in this country be changed, to treat each individual
fairly no matter the nationality is. |

Can this be serious? Let's just think about the imagery of the UAE
police being able to take anyone out of the UK to be tried in the UAE!!
UK civil liberties/human rights activists have been making a big fuss
about the UK:UAE treaty - two countries with a shared history of being
governed by the rule of law. How, pray tell, could there be a serious
reciprocal judicial arrangement between the UK and a country such as the
UAE where it has been shown that (depending on whether you are a US rap
producer carrying cocaine or an ordinary "joe") the rap for being in
possession ranges from a pardon from the ruler to being locked up in Al
Wathba (or some such notorious establishment) with the key virtually
being thrown away. Shame on the UK for even considering such a move!!!!

At this time of year when most of us are enjoying time with
our families,
let us spare a thought and prayer for all those desperate
and unfortunate people who are locked up in the notorious Al
Wathba prison in Abu Dhabi and other UAE jails without any
hope of release or a fair trial.
I have just heard the news that the UK has signed an
Extradition Agreement the United Arab Emirates - CAN ANYONE
BELIEVE THAT!!!!!
